Department graduates of all three Study Cycles have the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities, as specified by the National Qualifications Framework (NQF), and are able to apply the economic theory in any aspect of economic decision-making.

The structure of the undergraduate programme of studies focuses on providing the necessary skills for the employment of all graduates. It provides students with wide practical and theoretical knowledge, but mainly it helps them develop a strong and solid way of economic thinking, which can be used in all kinds of problems they might face in their work environment. Graduates acquire an impressive background on which they can develop professionally either in the public or the private sector.  Furthermore, they are capable of managing work/research plans, taking responsibility for the decision-making process or any possible problems, and undertaking administrative tasks in their field of expertise. They have advanced knowledge in the fields of economics and management, which allows them to comprehend and critically analyze theories and phenomena referring to policy design and practice, not only on a national level but also within the framework of the European Union and other international organizations.

At the same time, the department offers graduates the incentive and the background knowledge they need, in case they decide to continue their studies. Studies on a postgraduate or doctoral level will offer them highly specialized research and innovation skills, as well as the ability to apply new knowledge.

Studies in the Department of Economics provide the basis for a successful career in big international and Greek organizations, businesses, research centres, banks and other financial institutions in Greece and abroad, as well as for an academic career in Greek or foreign universities.

The curriculum is revised regularly, so as to be constantly updated according to the latest trends of economic practice, offering a boost to all graduates in the analysis and management of complex economic phenomena.

According to surveys conducted by the department, 75% of our graduates work in the field,  59% of which find a job position in less than 6 months after their graduation.
